Fancy a trip to space this morning? Timed to the Hubble Space Telescope's 35th anniversary, NASA recently launched a game called "Hubble's Cosmic Adventure," which allows users to virtually venture into the cosmos and explore all the nooks and crannies of the universe that Hubble has captured over the years. It's the perfect time-passer for the Venn diagram intersection of space nerds and gaming nerds (note: we use "nerd" as the highest compliment).

International Snow Sculpture Championship Winners Defy Gravity
The next Winter Olympics are still a year away, but spectators in Breckenridge, Colorado, were recently able to follow along with another epic cold weather competition to tide them over. Twelve teams from around the globe converged for the 2025 International Snow Sculpture Championships, putting their skills to the test in a race for the gold, silver, and bronze medals. Using only hand tools, the teams spent up to 96 hours across five days molding 25-ton blocks of snow (provided by the Breckenridge Ski Resort) into staggering works of art. Taking technical skill, creativity, expressive impact, and continuity to the original design into consideration, the five judges selected their winners and presented the awards in a ceremony held on Friday. So who took home the gold this year? Team Germany clinched the top spot with their sculpture "APEX — zero-gravity series," a geometric depiction of the creation of order. "Geometry is the music we experience with our eyes," the artists wrote in the original design description. Check out their finished design, as well as the runners-up.

Soccer Star Naomi Girma Scores Record-Breaking Deal in England
On Sunday, soccer star Naomi Girma made an announcement that's major in more ways than one: The Olympic gold medalist is not only leaving the San Diego Wave to play overseas in England, but she's also the first female footballer to land a transfer fee that breaks the $1 million mark, NBC News reports. The 24-year-old California native — known as one of the best defenders in the world — secured $1.1 million to head over to the Chelsea Women Football Club, where she'll play for four and a half years. The seven-figure deal surpasses the previous world-record transfer fee of $787,600, held by Bay FC star Racheal Kundananji. Girma already has a connection to Chelsea: As a member of the U.S. women's national soccer team, she's worked extensively with coach Emma Hayes, who formerly led the U.K. team for 12 years. "There are a lot of things about Chelsea that made me want to come here — the culture, the winning mentality, staff, and players," Girma said in the team press release. "It's a top environment to learn and grow in." The feeling is clearly mutual, with Chelsea's head of women's football Paul Green adding, "She is undoubtedly ready for this next step in her career and we are delighted it will be with Chelsea."

Study Offers Clearer Understanding of Huntington's Disease — And Potential Path for Prevention
It's been known for decades that Huntington's disease is caused by an inherited gene mutation in which a DNA sequence is repeated about 40 times. But now, scientists have some answers regarding how this mutation harms cells and why it develops in middle age — and the takeaways from their recent study might help pave the way for prevention of the disorder. After studying 500,000 individual cells in brain tissue donated by 53 people with Huntington's disease and 50 people without it, researchers found that while the inherited mutation doesn't immediately cause harm, it is unstable for decades and becomes highly toxic once it reaches a certain point. "It's only when the repeat becomes extremely long that it begins to cause harm," co-author Steve McCarroll said in a statement. "This is a really different way of thinking not only about how Huntington's disease develops but also about how a mutation brings about a disease." The study results offer both a clearer picture of the disease and new windows of understanding about how to postpone or potentially prevent the onset of Huntington's. "We've been able to piece together the full trajectory of the pathology as it unfolds over decades in individual neurons, and that gives us potentially many different time points at which we can intervene therapeutically," added co-author Bob Handsaker.
