On3 walked the halls of the Personnel and Recruiting Symposium in Nashville this week, the largest networking event in the college football front-office industry with more than 1,600 registered attendees. Meeting with agents, general managers, and staffers before the season kicks off, On3 gathered intel ranging from NIL notes to summer workout standouts to impact transfers.
Rosters expected to exceed $50 million: Trying to pin down how many programs are spending north of $40 million this season, two Power Four general managers said they believe eight programs are over the mark this season. Multiple general managers believe the top rosters in the sport will be over $50M in 2027.
Agents pushing for long-term deals for high school recruits: Multi-year deals are becoming increasingly commonplace with high school recruits, sources told On3 this week. It’s a popular request from agents who understand athletes’ value significantly drops after a freshman season if they do not play. Trying to enter the transfer portal with little to no tape is not an ideal situation.
That was far from the only buzz out of Nashville. General managers floated ideas for what a CFB salary cap should look like and broke down where several high-profile quarterback battles stand heading into the season.
