Benjamin Franklin once said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” He was talking about fire prevention, but the adage holds true for plenty of situations, including keeping kids safe amid summer fun. Physicians at the University of Rochester Medicine rounded up some of the most common summer backyard injuries, as well as tips on how to avoid them. See the list.

Novel Pill Doubled Pancreatic Cancer Survival Time in New Study

Lately, headlines have been circulating with “hope” and “pancreatic cancer” in the same sentence, a landmark moment for one of the deadliest and hardest to detect cancers.
In a study published Sunday, researchers outlined the results of a Phase 3 clinical trial testing a novel pill for people with advanced pancreatic cancer, finding that it roughly doubled the survival time for participants who received the treatment. “While not curing the cancer, it is a very large step forward,” co-author Dr. Zev Wainberg told the Associated Press.
Called daraxonrasib, the daily pill led to a median survival time of 13.2 months, compared to 6.7 months for patients receiving chemotherapy. It works by blocking a mutated protein that fuels tumor growth in the grand majority of pancreatic cancer cases. The drug was also associated with fewer severe side effects than chemotherapy.
This is the first time a medication has shown a substantial advantage over chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer, Wainberg said. Looking ahead, researchers hope to test out its use in less advanced cases to help more people shrink tumors and live longer.

YouTube Updates AI Policy to Clearly Identify What’s Human-Made and What’s Not

Is this AI? It’s a question on the forefront of many of our minds when a friend/coworker/my dad sends another dubious video in the group chat. YouTube is now helping take some of the guesswork out.
The video platform recently updated its policies to more prominently feature a label that discloses if a video has been altered or generated with AI. The label will appear directly below the player and right above the video description for long-form videos. For shorter content, the disclosure will overlay on the video itself.
“The goal here is context at a glance. If it looks real but was made with AI, viewers will know immediately,” Rene Ritchie, a YouTube creator, said in a video describing the policy. He added: “This is purely about giving viewers the right information at the right time.”
The change comes as more online content players are seeking to distinguish AI from non-AI material — Spotify, for example, added certification badges to identify human artists. Still, training your eye to detect AI is always a good idea. Test yourself with this quiz.

Boy’s Viral “Toy Story” Photo From 2020 Gets Him Invited to Sequel’s Premiere

A young boy who went viral in 2020 after his dad re-created a tear-jerking movie moment on his first day of school has finally met his Hollywood heroes — on the red carpet. Vinny Donnelly was just 4 when proud dad Sean Donnelly lined up his son’s favorite toys at the front door to see him off, a sweet nod to the emotional goodbye scene from Toy Story 3.
The adorable image, taken at the family’s home in Leicestershire, England, melted hearts worldwide when Vinny’s mom, Charlotte, shared it online six years ago. Fast forward to today, and Vinny, now 10, is in the spotlight again. Disney Pixar tracked him down and invited him to be a guest of honor at last week’s London premiere of Toy Story 5, where he met Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, the legendary voices behind Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
“To be honest, we’d kind of forgotten about the photo because it was so long ago,” Sean, 38, told SWNS. “At the time it was bonkers, we were getting calls and messages from people all over the world. Suddenly a few weeks ago Disney got in contact out of the blue and invited Vinny to the premiere.” Check out the original viral photos.

A Snoring Solution From Spring Sleep
For many of us, falling asleep is hard. CPAP machines and mandibular advancement devices (MADs) may help people get more rest once they’re asleep, but can be uncomfortable to deal with while awake. Even a supportive bed partner prefers something that doesn’t get in the way of goodnight kisses. The eXciteOSA from Spring Sleep treats the root cause of mild obstructive sleep apnea during the day, in just 20 minutes. Once bedtime arrives, sleeping is as simple as getting comfortable and closing your eyes. Fill out the questionnaire to see if it’s right for you.
