We have another shakeup atop the On3 weekly Heisman Trophy poll tracking the candidates for college football’s top award. Notably, a quarterback no longer leads the way, with non-quarterback skill position players making up half of the top 10 players. Coming off Week 4, here's a snapshot of the poll below.
1. WR Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State (149 points)
WEEKEND STATS: 12 catches for 217 yards, 4 TD
A "slow" Week 3 by Smith's standards didn't last long. The Ohio State star was everywhere against Illinois, flashing the kind of body control in the end zone that's become his trademark. It was a career day for a player who's already done just about everything, and it vaulted him to the top of the poll.
6. WR Malachi Toney, Miami (78 points)
WEEKEND STATS: 6 catches for 120 yards, 1 TD
Toney has found the end zone in all four games this season and topped 100 yards in three of them. His lone miss was a 96-yard outing in Week 2. What stands out most is the explosiveness: he's averaging 16.6 yards per catch, and that number sits closer to 20 when you take out the Wake Forest game.
Smith and Toney are only two of the 10 names in this week's poll. The full ranking shows who filled the other eight spots, where last week's leader slid to, and the seven other players who are also receiving votes.
