Hours before US and South Korean forces were set to begin their annual joint exercises Monday, President Trump posted on Truth Social that the US will "substantially reduce" the drills, citing his "very good relationship" with Kim Jong Un and calling the exercises "costly" and "totally inappropriate and hostile." He also noted Seoul had declined to join the US in the "denuclearisation" of Iran, saying South Korean officials answered "No thanks!" when he raised it.

Seoul had earlier said the drills would proceed "as scheduled," and its presidential Blue House said it was reviewing Trump's comments while continuing consultations on US-Korea military cooperation related to the Strait of Hormuz. North Korea has not commented, days after conducting UN-banned ballistic missile tests, and Trump's announcement followed his weekend post of a 2019 photo of himself and Kim.

Meta Heads to Federal Court Tuesday in a $1.4 Trillion Kids-Addiction Trial

California, Colorado, Kentucky, and New Jersey take Meta to trial Tuesday seeking up to $1.4 trillion in penalties and product changes, arguing the parent of Facebook and Instagram deceived the public about the platforms' risks, designed features like the like button and infinite scroll to hook children, and vacuumed up kids' data in violation of COPPA. "They're putting the profits… over the health of a generation of young people," New Jersey AG Jennifer Davenport told NPR.

The case is being treated as a bellwether in multidistrict litigation that consolidates thousands of similar suits, and legal experts compare it to landmark tobacco and opioid cases that reshaped those industries. States argue Meta financially benefited from prolonged use because ad revenue rises with time on the platform, and that visual filters known internally to promote eating disorders and body dysmorphia were rolled out anyway.

Hurricane Lala Batters Hawaii, Leaving More Than 180,000 in the Dark

What it is: Just days after Italy's carabinieri recovered three paintings stolen in March from the Magnani-Rocca Foundation near Parma, thieves hit a Sicilian museum Saturday night and made off with four Renaissance panels attributed to Antonello da Messina. Two heists in 48 hours are the loudest signal yet that European museums are facing a coordinated wave of thefts.

The detail: The Parma recovery included Cézanne's "Still Life with Cherries," valued around $7 million; Renoir's "Les Poissons," roughly $3.5 million; and a Matisse aquatint. Original March raid used a tractor to smash through a fence and lasted under three minutes. In Messina, thieves entered the Regional Interdisciplinary Museum around 9:50 p.m. Saturday without tripping alarms and lifted a double-sided Antonello panel directly from a locked display case, plus three panels of the Polyptych of San Gregorio, painted in 1473.

Why it matters: Italian investigators told the news agency Ansa their working theory is that both jobs were stolen-to-order for black-market collectors — a business model that thrives on works too famous to fence openly and too obscure to trigger international recovery efforts. Museum director Marisa Mercurio called the Messina theft "a great loss for the museum, for the city, the community and the art world," language that echoes the reaction across the continent as thefts pile up.

What to watch: Watch whether the Sicilian panels turn up quickly, as the Parma trio did, or vanish for years — the pattern will tell investigators whether the same network is running both jobs.
